FARIDABAD: An angry crowd vandalised a sub-division office of an electricity office here on Sunday and thrashed the staff after a 61-year-old man was killed when a high-tension line snapped and fell on him. They also blocked the road for two hours.
Kishan Lal Manchanda died on the spot when the cable snapped and fell on him while he was passing the area on a scooter.
However, his son who was riding the two-wheeler, escaped unhurt.
The angry crowd dispersed only after Haryana state minister AC Chaudhary, accompanied by SDM Pushpinder Chauhan, arrived at the spot and assured them that action would be taken against those found guilty of dereliction of duty.
Locals said that the cable passing over the railway road was an old one and that they had requested the DHBVN to get it replaced, but to no avail.
The said cable had reportedly broken up and fallen on the road at 3:30 AM today. The DHBVN had got it rejointed and left it. But, the same joint broke up in the afternoon and fell on the unfortunate victim who was passing on the road and died.
Speaking to Times City, JB Mudgal, Superintending Engineer, Faridabad said that he is investigating the cause of todays accident and will take remedial measures also very soon.
This city is passing through the rigours of powercuts due to extreme demand resulting from weather conditions as well as replacement of old cables by the new ones in some areas of the city. The citizens have to undergo a state of total uncertainty about the timing of the power supply as well as its breakdown.
